I am a trained sculpture conservator with 10 years’ experience.
This work has involved the conservation of architectural stonework, period plaster ceilings, sculpture, public memorials and church monuments, be they wall monuments or tomb effigies. As this work was often site based, following the birth of my children I undertook further training to expand my expertise in order to offer a greater range of services that would in turn give me more flexibility. My decorating training culminated in an advanced craft qualification in decorative schemes which compliments my training in sculpture conservation. As a professional decorator I cover a wide range of projects from straightforward decorating to more traditional finishes. I can update furniture, fire surrounds and kitchens using a variety of techniques, such as marbling or graining or through the use of different paints. I can assist with putting together successful interior schemes to help you achieve a personalised look.
In 2011 I undertook CPD ( Professional development ) as part of an initiative to involve and train local crafts people and heritage students at Coleg Sir Gar, Ammanford in traditional building techniques. The project involved the preparing, repairing and painting of the Cwmdu Inn, Cwmdu, Carmarthenshire using traditional paints and techniques in keeping with accepted conservation principles. This was carried out under the guidance of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings ( SPAB ) and delivered and supervised by Gill Wickendon ( BBC Wales – ‘A Pembrokeshire Cottage’, West Wales Lime Forum )
In 2012 I/ was invited as part of a group of Professional craftspeople and lecturers from Coleg Sir Gar to demonstrate traditional decorative skills to the public and HRH Prince of Wales during his visit to the National Botanical Gardens at Llanarthne. This was a Construction Skill and Coleg Sir Gar initiative.
Kind Words from Clients
Over the last five years Donna has decorated most of our house at least once! She’s a real perfectionist so you know the end result is going to be great every time, whether it’s papering, painting, walls or woodwork. Donna also has a great eye for design and has been brilliant at helping choosing colour schemes as well as giving more general design suggestions when we needed them. She is 100% reliable, punctual and conscientious, and she cleans up after herself better than I would myself! I would wholeheartedly recommend Donna to anyone looking for any sort of decorating work – you’ll be delighted!
